Hip hop…HOORAY!!!

I’m now officially on probation from the adopted family (here in Germany). All because I refused to go to some hip hop party.

Memories from this weekend:

Friday night after the Pogues (guitarist) show Matt saying “Come on you’ve got two more in ya” as he walked off stage. Matt is trying to make a good impression with Jamie Clark.

A ham and cheese sandwich on Friday night…that was good.

A US marine singing “Killing in the name of” at Karaoke.

Big Ben singing Tenacious D with feeling…

Closing down 3 establishments on Sunday morning (Irish, Some Vietnamese restaurant and Shooters).

pops trying to figure out how to go home tonight.

Snow!

Family Guy Movie…

when does the day end?

…at the end of the day Kings of Leon really understand web 2.9. everyone else is an idiot.

french cars.

Yesterday I missed a poker tournament cuz I forgot about it…..agghhhhh

The Raconteurs album is pretty good.

Mein name ist Honraaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
t was funny if you were there…I have no time for people who are embarrassed by my emphatically superb mixing of Duetsch and French languages.
Ich bin Croisssssaaaaaannnnt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arsenal!!!!!

At the end of the day I have no time for people who name their kids after car manufacturers….Renault, Pugeot, Citroen.

Timmmaaaayyyyyy!

Week in Review….Trying to remember

Monday was sammich (why can’t we get decent food at an event called sammich?). Why are there Germans at an ex-pat event…that’s just weird…Germans who go to ex-pat events must hate other Germans…what’s was that about?

Tuesday…went to an actual restaurant called “Tequilas”. I’m sure the Americans who read this probably think that’s dumb, but they actually had Burritos…this is very exciting for me who currently misses Mexican food more than anything else in the states. Ate with a bulgy (Bulgarian) who was good company. So many different nationalities and people in Frankfurt. Amazing.

Wed-Thursday…..uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. NO Clue. Meetings at work I guess…

Friday….Movies at my place. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang…good movie. Went to Shooters late. Shooters…

Saturday….Watched Little Timmy Crouch’s team (Liverpool) beat Chelsea. I can’t decide if I want Ma’am U to lose more than I want Little Timmy Crouch to win. To cheer for little Timmy or against Ma’am U? Tough question…Went to Ben’s. I think they were drinking gasoline…I declined. Watched Family guy episodes then played a playstion game where I get to drive a gigantic Dodge over old Minis. Maybe I should buy a playstion someday.

Today going to watch Ma’am U at the Fox and Hound. Choice is clear today….Go Arsenal!!!!

Next Friday am going to Offenbach to see the Pogues (or at least the closest thing we can get to the Pogues on a Friday night in Offenbach – am truly excited about this).

at the end of tomorrow…

Heidelberg

Yesterday the fams and I went to Heidelberg.

I woke up with my phone ringing at 8:50 am…I was sleeping rather soundly and when I was jarred awake by my phone I promptly jumped out of bed and upon landing I figured out that my right leg was asleep and fell over. I had to crawl to my phone, but I did answer it.
I had 10 missed calls…huh?????
I also had a black coat that I took from the pub last night cuz I thought it was Matt’s and he forgot it…turns out that it wasn’t Matt’s and he did not forget it…I guess that means I accidentally stole a coat…I’ll have to take it back. OOPS!
So anyways during my wake up call Matt, Kat, and I agreed to meet  at 9:45 to catch the train to Heidelberg and spend the day being tourists.

At 9:45 I call Matt because I’m the only one at the prescribed meeting point…Matt is sleeping….He’ll be there in half an hour
Kat arrived at meeting point and we went to Starbucks since Matt was not with us.

Matt arrives and we catch train to Hauptbanhof (main train station). First quote for tickets from the nice ticket man is 140€. Which is much higher than quote on website…Kat asks again and if we decide not to take the ICE (high speed train) its only 35€ for 3 people…which is magically cheaper than the quote on the website…Pleasant surprise.
Breakfast at McDonalds in the Hauptbanhof. Highlight was some weird girl wearing cat ears and a long tail…Lots of cool people at the main station.

We arrived in Heidelberg on train trip in which Kat’s inner monologue was not working…actually it wasn’t working at any point yesterday…
I especially liked when we were trying to talk about people who are 2 feet away, but we’re using the opportunity to practice our German…”die frau in de Rhote um Weiss ist…whatever”…
maybe speaking bad German is actually safer than speaking English. They’re less likely to understand us.

Walk to castle….Nice castle…large parts of it are off limits unless you buy the guided tour…they do not tell us this at the ticket booth…jerks!!!

There are too many americans there…Why is the US military in Germany?

Leave castle….walking up and down to and from castles is always stressful on knees/legs. Cobble stones streets that slope at a 45 degree angle for a 2 mile hike are not so great….alternative is stairs, but that’s hard too. What kind of idiot would put a castle on top of a hill….STUPID!!!
(I’m pretty sure my mom will think that was a serious question and attempt to send me information on why it’s better to put a castle on top of a hill).
walk to tourist area.

I’ts like a mini Zeil (ffm Shopping area). We’re trying to figure out if we’re hungry…walk by a burrito restaurant…I was very excited…we don’t have anything like that near me in Frankfurt. I was vetoed so we keep walking…We see mini-calzone place…I was very excited…I was vetoed…We see Irish pub….HOLY SMOKES!!! Without much discussion we walk in…Good decision…No question the best music selection I’ve ever heard in an Irish pub…Most Irish pubs here in ffm don’t even play Irish music.
We watch little timmy crouch score about 5 goals for Liverpool (Little timmy crouch is the man!!!)
Luckily for Matt Ma’amchester is coming on next, so of course we have to watch that game…Every 5 minutes we laugh because we came to do some sightseeing or something and just sat in an Irish pub and watched football…classy…

After game we walk around and try to find where the students hang out and stuff.

Ask local where to go…after 5 minutes of talking she remembers where we should go and gives us the info we need. She says we can walk there, but of course I’ve already walked today so I want a cab….We catch a cab and after driving for half an hour we arrive…I’ve learned to beware when a German says something is within walking distance….be very skeptical…

Arrive at a nice area…hit 4 or 5 pubs…
Strangest one seemed a bit like a nazi bar??? I’m basing this statement on the clientelle. Normally when you see a shaved head in Germany you’re pretty sure it’s a commonwealth country citizen or an american. This place was filled with shaved German heads, Suspenders and boots. Did not really realize this until drinks were ordered…I’m sure noone would have bothered me, but Kat’s Korean so it was a bit strange. Matt and kat were discussing American History X.  Excellent…
Noone gave us any look when we went it, so probably an overreaction, but one never knows…we hurried through drinks and moved on.

Last place we went to was a Piano bar…I love Piano bars…I guess there’s one in Sachsenhausen, but I’ve never gone.

A special thank for our taxi driver in Heidelberg – Michael Schumacher…who claimed at first not to speak english, but eventually did start bantering with us as he was tearing up the streets and possibly excessive speeds. He was cool.

Seems like nothing has happened so far this week. Haven’t really seen the fams and have had training all week so I have to be to work earlier than normal.
Below are some pics that might be from pops bday…

Excuse me sir. Have you the time?

Things I learned this week:

My friends will call me at 3:30 am when they’re at shooters without me…even though they know I’m sleeping.
They will tell me anything at all just to get me there (there’s a midget and a girl with MS). My friends know what I like. Even though there was no one with MS nor midgets…LIARS!!!!
They will keep calling until I answer.
If I need to sleep I must remember to turn my phone off.

Do not drink Red Bull/anything after 3 AM…bad news bears. I don’t like sleeping until at least 6 am. Luckily it’s the weekend.

when my friends come over for movies, we won’t necessarily watch movies…
however we will order pizza so my flat stinks for a week…
900 bottles will magically appear in my kitchen because I don’t know how to get rid of them.

When someone says to me “Squires, what’s up” and I ignore them they might keep talking to me.

good doesn’t exist without evil.

The bartenders get to drink on the job on new years eve. Viva la Deutschland.

Parrots?

Had a discussion last night on who would win a fight between a Ninja and a Pirate. After a bit of consideration it becomes obvious that the Ninja would win easily.
Assume both had weapons…the Ninja has stars, and the Pirate has 4 single shot pistols…He would have not chance to reload…He’s probably drunk, has one good leg and a patch and a hook…even if he wasn’t drunk the odds are that the ninja would get the first shot off, and I would trust the ninja with one shot rather than the crooked pirate with one shot…If it got to hand to hand combat even with the hook the pirate would have a disadvantage…I would say 8 times out of 10 the Ninja wins in a room with no obstructions and if there were obstructions (say on a pirate ship) the ninja would win 98% of the time.
in retrospect it’s a silly question because the two are not evenly matched. Even a kid can win at horsehoes once in a while (infinite monkeys at infinite keyboards…).

I’m glad that adult people can have conversations like this…

shall and therefore…

I got a text today with the word “therefore” in it. I didn’t know Ozzies were so formal. ;>)~

Had a dinner gathering with adopted family. Pops can actually cook. I was pleasantly surprised. We then played trivial pursuit, but it was the British edition, so I had no real chance at any of the British Political questions or anything to do with sports as it was all cricket, rugby and football. Oh well. someone has to finish last right? Why not a yank…
