bust out those earmuffs…

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

annoying yank overheard at xmas market: ‘So Uh…maybe you should bust our your earmuffs’

Good job everyone with making 2,0 ‘think it was his idea’…it almost worked… :)

These are from the weihnachtsmarkt and a thanksgiving dinner.

…outta the blast from the past files…

It was weird that the only birthday card I got was from my dad…He doesn’t really celebrate birthdays either…

off to the market…yay..first night…

Königstein

Rented a car for the weekend and went to Ikea (bad eveil ikea!!!), and then some small towns to look at castles and such…
Took a bunch of pics that won’t be of interest to anyone in germany, but for the people in the States who don’t have cobblestone streets, castles, old buildings etc you can have a look…

It snowed…

weihnachtsmarkt starts this week!!! Ring my bell anyone who’s down there…I’ll pop down!

German bowling…

Monday, November 17th, 2008

my favourite thing about the bowling alley is that the ‘smoking room’ also happened to be the ‘game room’…
(Not only did I win at bowling, but also off road racing, air hockey and scrabble, but no one likes a gloater so we never had this conversation)…
So is it just me or is the idea of a designated smoking room to keep the children ‘safe’, and the idea of a ‘game room’ is to give the kids a haven…perfect…
let’s put the crotchety old ladies together with the annoying children and their noisy games and see what happens…

german politician #1: Well, it seems that even the French are going to ban smoking at most places
german politician #2: why
german politician #1: I have no idea…
german politician #2: OK let’s do it…2 months before they do…
german politician #1: good idea!!!

Ever buy a tageskarte in anticipation of actually using it?
Yeah me neither…

happy birthday queen Nür. Realistically this was probably the only chance in my life to go to your bday party and I missed it…bummer!
gotta stop skipping those once in a lifetime events…oh well…maybe next year eh?

so I’m watching the Oregon State football game on the internet…(illegal???)…I also watched some rugby today and as I’ve always said since being here that the real rugby players are much more men-like than the american rugby players…
it’s a US feed, so I get commercials from the States. Ok here’s my analysis…xmas is cool…I just want to buy stuff….
desperate housewives…stupid!!! seriously a fire in some crappy club…OMG what to do!!! run away run away!!!

bowling tomorrow…

heeeyy…it’s ya birthday

Thanks everyone who gave me the birthday wishes…
Thanks mona for the mood lighting, and Julia for bothering to find 34 candles in Deutschland ;)

I started Italian lessons the other night…I think I’ve forgotten everything but ciao!

…and here comes Obama thinking of bailing out the Auto Industry…wouldn’t it be better for the environment if the US auto industry failed or shrank…Putting business interests ahead of the environment….Obama as republican….
If they did fail you’d have more european and Asian cars on the roads over there…I don’t think that’s bad.
The money would be better spent elsewhere…I’ve only ever owned one US made vehicle (a 76 jeep CJ5) and it was 25 years old when I bought it…if I was paying taxes in the states why should I have to use those tax dollars for a bailout of a company(ies) that doesn’t benefit me…
Just shut em down and give the retired workers free health care (give em all health care) and a year in community college. It doesn’t take a genius to notice that if your pension plan takes in x dollars but owes x² that the people in that company are stupid to offer that and the workers are stupid to accept that…(social security)…companies with stupid people running them should fail.
Can we just give Michigan to Canada???

I’ve been accused of making incorrect statements just to elicit a response on this page… ;) who me…

…and I finally heard an intelligent european take on Obama (on a news podcast). something along the lines of ‘it’s great that he won, but germans need to temper their enthusiasm a bit. If they knew his positions they’d realize he’s not going to win the Socialist politician of the year award’.
Ok so I probably completely butchered that quote (it was only from memory), and if I’m not mistaken that might be sarcasm coming out of a germans mouth…The world ends tomorrow…

Just to clarify…If I was forced to vote for Obama or McCain I would have easily and without question voted for Obama and I think he could end up being a great president (yes I know he’s a scientologist and his real name is Barack eLRahn Obama, but I just don’t care…). I just think if Europeans really knew his positions they might not like him as much (too far right). I think they’ve just been caught up in the hype without really knowing what they think they know…
that said I really hope he succeeds with his grander more important plans…

Didn’t actually find anyone today to talk politics with (first time in a while)…so I’ll just put up a pic of Keith and myself representin’g our support for people in wheelchairs, and Saffa who is representin’g corky….

I’m almost excited about the day when the euros will lost their naiveté and idealism when it comes to Obama and american politics…

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

still amused by the response to Obama here…He would be a centre-right candidate in most of europe (most american democrats would be)….people think that when I don’t treat him like a saviour that I’m anti-Obama…not true…I just think people’s response here is overly optimistic…but with the tax rates he proposes, the prominence of his religion, his opposition to gay marriage, his complaints of ,the loss of american jobs’ (which implies tariffs and opposition to free trade) – as already noted these are not left positions in europe. I’m almost excited about the day when the euros will lost their naiveté and idealism when it comes to Obama and american politics…

He’s not a king. He’s an equal to the house and senate.
