rich, dumb and well connected…

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

american magazines are going crazy with stories of how now that americans are forced to re-evaluate thier wasteful, credit fueled, jobless, health care only for the people who can afford it lifestyles that they are now becoming socialists…thank you jorge W (it’s pronounced whore-hey). You should have become socialists not when Bush decided to push for more money for medicare (socialism) or public education (socialism) but when you heard about how he was able to go to Yale becuase he was a “heritage” C student. Taking the place of a bright, unconnected, poor, white trash, intelligent, second-generation, non-draft dodging, working-class american.
Oh wait…anyone who wants to get an education in america can get it…not just the rich…my mistake.

I just watched ”Everything is Illuminated” for the second time…great movie!!! Might be one of my favourites ever!

I said to the pizza man “Können sie in die aufzeig stügen”. Which is something similar to “Können Sie in den Aufzug steigen?” (can you get in the elevator?). Yet it’s also somehow not ;)

surley S-bahn drivers…

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

so what’s the deal with the dirty looks the tram drivers insists on throwing at cars that attempt to cut them off…OK I know that you’re driving a train, and you always have right of way…but do you really need to honk the horn and stare down the car driver when you have to slam on your brakes…we get it…you are in the right…the cars have to stop for you and you should be morally outraged and offended that someone tried to stop you in your all important quest to deliver the little people from one stop to another, but really…DO YOU HAVE TO SLOW DOWN THE TRAIN AND ATTEMPT TO MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH THE DRIVER OF THE FIAT CINQO-OCHO (or whatever it is). We all know that you aren’t about to follow them home or wave a gun at them or threaten their children so just get over it…toot your little horn and move on…

Not my story, but interesting…I drink way more than 7 cups a day without problems…I’m hyper-evolved for this sort of thing…

If you’re drinking too much coffee, you might just be seeing dead people — at least according to the following study. This story has appeared in numerous websites, reporting on research work that links high intake of caffeine to hallucinations. The study suggests people who drink more than seven cups of coffee a day have an increased tendency to hallucinate. According to researchers from the University of Durham, high caffeine users may even think they sense non-existent people. These findings are the result of 219 self-report questionnaires by college students. Of course, besides coffee, caffeine can be obtained from sources such as tea and energy drinks, etc. The study was based on the knowledge that the hormone cortisol, released in response to stressors, is understood to play a role in the development of psychotic experiences — and that caffeine intake increases cortisol release. When under stress the body releases cortisol, which is produced in greater quantities after consuming caffeine, possibly leading to hallucinations. Seeing things that were not there, hearing voices and sensing the presence of dead people were among the experiences reported by participants. The ability of caffeine to exacerbate the effects of stress may be behind the study’s findings, scientists believe. Those who had a high caffeine intake were three times more likely to have heard the voice of someone non-existent than “low” users who consumed less than one cup of instant coffee or its equivalent. “One interpretation may be that those students who were more prone to hallucinations used caffeine to help cope with their experiences,” said Dr Charles Fernyhough, one of the study’s co-authors. coffee

3 bikes…9 months

I’m now in possession of a bike…It should be stolen, lost or otherwise missing within the next 3 weeks. I’ll keep you all posted.

PS3 is media centre actually works. All I had to do was plug in a USB drive and I can access movies, music, photos etc. through the TV.
Look out microsoft. Your long term relevance is in doubt. I know that’s not an original thought, but I’m not a geek and I could easily live with a netbook and PS3 media center. I don’t really have a need for offline software at home anymore.
