I’m told the Italy approval has mostly come through!
I sort of feel like I should be chest bumping someone (I was convinced by an australian that this is what americans do to celebrate). If I have time I will make an animated gif out of matt’s photos :)

We also took a break from the Börse to go see the Terminator movie…It was ok…I don’t normally do big summer explosion type movies, but this was watchable.

…and I have to say I’m very proud that saffa ”doesn’t really think of me as an american”…Good to know that I’m ”on his level”…I’m probably giving his opinion too much credit…he is just a saffa after all…Diplomatic immunity anyone???

the Italians sure do love their disco…

On Thursday I checked my vacation time for the year and noticed I still have 25 days off left for the year. So I took off Friday and next Friday. It’s nice to have so much free time to spend with friends and family…I guess the socialists really are the ”Family values” party.
well done Europe!!!

It’s been an absolutely gorgeous, rainy, cold day here. It seems to rain a lot in June. I love it!!!

I was in Italy a week ago…I do believe I miss it…

Short, stressful, sweet and now back home…

Monday, June 1st, 2009

…so got up at 5am on Thursday and caught the bus to Frankfurt Hahn. The plan was to stay at 3 different places on 3 different nights around Tuscany. Mission somehow accomplished. Lesson 1 learned is that when driving in a strange country one should go ahead and make the effort to print maps and try to figure out where you are going ahead of time…As I like to call myself a cartographer I usually forego that bit of effort and just ”wing it”…Maps are beneath me…I own maps!!!
Most of the stress revolved around the driving from 1 hotel to the next…but as usual we made it and I’ll probably just rinse and repeat on my next trip…Although when I go on holiday and I stay at one place for several days I usually wish I was staying different places every night and when I stay at different places every night I just long for the relaxation (boredom) that tends to happen when you are in one place for several days…

anyways…so 1 night in Ameglia, which was right on a river about 100 meters from where the mouth flowed into the Med. The hotel was named Sette Archi (Seven Arches) Great place! Great food. Great location. Recommended!

Stopped in Lucca…I had been there last year on my visit…It’s a medeival walled town that is quite well preserved.

Spent Friday in Lerici. Stayed at a cabin thing (il medieval resort Ippotur) in the hills above. Beautiful place. Individual cabin with a loft. Very private. View of the Med. Great hosts.

Saturday night in La Spezia…They have a crusty Burger restaurant in La Spezia. They sell Duff beer there…We didn’t go, but gawked like tourists outside. On the way home from dinner heard some music playing down an alley and there is this amazing acid jazz band playing. I usually only tolerate jazz, but this was great! Two bass players (one electric, one full size non), a singer who was 12 months pregnant (they found claw marks on the insde of her uterus – Arrested development), 2 trumpet players, one of whom also experimented with a mouth organ…all in all it was great. We had a bottle of wine we were carrying back to the hotel and just drank out of the bottle in the alley like pirates while listening to music. Great night!!!
