immigrant experience…

So sometime this weekend I went to a little cafe downstairs…I always get a caffe macchiato when I go there. I order and wait around at the bar then take it outside normally…two people order after me and then go outside (obviously she’s going to bring them their drinks in a minute)…I’m still standing there. The lady says something to me…I thought she was asking me to take the people their coffee cuz it was kinda busy. I asked her if she spoke english, and she responded in italian (awesome! – tho she knows by now that I’m a foreigner). I’m still not sure why she was asking me to take the people their coffee, but I’m a helpful sort of fella 😉

well, she gives me my coffee and I sort of stand there looking confused, then start making hand gestures at the tray with the other peoples coffee 🙂
you can see where this is going…She was not asking me to take them their coffee…she was telling me that I could go sit outside and she would bring me my coffee…After a second we both laughed (maybe for different reasons)…ahh immigrant life…I feel stupid several times a week for situations like this 🙂

I love daylight savings time in spring (yes, we just did it this weekend…for all the yanks out there)…great!!!

My contract renewal is being worked on! So I’m semi officially still living in Italy for a while longer 😀

Coen brothers do it again…

I just finished watching True Grit (2010)…WOW!!! Great flick! Can they make a bad movie???
It used to be the case that I never liked their movies the first time I saw them, then on a second viewing I got it or liked it or something…I think that changed when I saw “No Country for Old Men” (in London)…

Some leftover pics from the Frankfurt trip…

well that was quick…

Is it really Friday already? That was quick!

Ummm…this will be a nonsense post….
I’ve seen my first lizard this week…my first invading insect in my flat, and my first motorcycle lying in the road (from getting hit)….First of the year…not first of all time!

Anyways…it’s springtime more or less….daylight savings tomorrow night.

My vespa wouldn’t start this morning, so I will take it to the shop in the morning…Not only for the starting problem, but another sort of long term problem that is getting worse. I was looking forward to taking a mini-road trip this weekend. It should be nice on Saturday and I wanted to go for a drive…not in the cards anymore.

tonight, Mexican food…since I’m vehicle-less Daniele is picking me up on his motorcycle…I don’t trust him and will probably die 😉
So as I said before…if I die, Matt take care of my stuff…at my funeral I want to be fed to pirahnas who should then be fed to alligators…who should then be buried in the ground under a tree 🙂

Viva la Republica!!!

I made that up…

Tomorrow is a holiday for the 150th anniversary of the Republic…It’s also St. Patricks day tomorrow…Well done Italy…my respect for you is at an all time high 🙂
If I ever found a country I would do it on St. Patricks day as well!!! Good done!

I’m looking at “…found a country…” and I’m wondering if that is correct english…Did I mention my english gets worser and worser?
Form a country??? start a county…I have no idea… 🙂

the amazing…the legendary…Laurel Aitken

I downloaded some Laurel Aitken this weekend. I haven’t listened to him in maybe 10 years. I’m quite enjoying it…old times!

Video here isn’t that great, but sounds good…I think he’s about 75 years old at this show…amazing!!!

italy…part 5

It’s ok for me to talk shit about BerlesqueTony as long as I do in in English right 😉
Good grief…threaten a lawsuit anytime someone has an opinion in Italy…

The weather has gone to absolute crap! I’m not sure I can be bothered to leave my flat today…it’s really gray and wet out there.

Fog of war….

I’m linking the article because of the clip…for the americans who haven’t seen “the Fog of War” I’d recommend it (esp my dad might enjoy it). Anyways the clip is about 10 minutes long. It’s just Robert McNamara talking. I know he’s gotten a lot of critiscism over the years (or during his years in the administrations), but I love love love this documentary and I liked listening to him.

what is faith if not the absence of reason…

Here’s some advice for the kiddies…

If you’re drying your laundry on the balcony and rain is in the forecast…make sure your clothes are in the dry part of the balcony 🙂

Common sense really…but you’ll thank me someday!

more couchsurfing…

I got a couchsurfing referral from Andrea (did I explain the convoluted story of couchsurfing last time?)…

anyways…Elena stayed two nights at mine then went to Andrea’s…then Andrea got a request from a Belgium photographer who needed a place to stay…Andrea sent him to me…So Laurent stayed at mine (he was in town 1 night to take photos of the bike race stage going on in town today). We all had dinner at Andrea’s, and it was awesome!!! Cheers dude!
I was actually inspired to write some funny stuff, but now I think I’ve forgotten it all…It’s been a while since I’ve actually typed out something funny….well today was almost that day 🙂
I was in a great mood…oh well….maybe tomorrow!
