And US capability to provide Internet to people in other countries if their own govt. cuts it off.

Tonight dinner hosted by Leo…steak fiorentine. Florence style steak…I’ve not had it, but I guess it’s super thick. I’ve no idea what the actual cut is…Should be good….I hope I don’t forget to take out bottles when I get home…I’m gonna have to get angry at Leo for having dinner on bottle night 😉

I read it online, so it must be true…

“We believe that the decisions of how to deal with the massive asteroid are best left to the individual,” King added.

Gotta love the Onion!

What we have here is a round trip ticket to Frankfurt….

you suck RyanAir…22€ is ridiculous and I still hate you!!!
Feb 24-28…be there or be square!!! Good bye Berger…someone needs to offer me a place to stay…

Ever receive a really nice and concise compliment? You think not only is that a nice compliment, but it was quite nicely worded and beautiful???
Is it wrong to then re-use that compliment at a later date on someone else, or does that cheapen the intent and giver of the original compliment? Should you ask permission?
I’m not going to re-print it here in case I ever have occasion to use it 😉

I’m pretty sure nothing else is relevant…

If you know me, then you know I’m giggling… 🙂

its Friday!!!

Two of my colleagues asked me (separately) if I had plans for the weekend….The best answer that I could come up with was “I should buy some toilet paper”….

That’s the new slang for I have nothing to do this weekend…

AND….

Obama: Aside From All The Weirdos And Freaks Around Here, The State Of The Union Is Strong

“Americans are known for their strength, perseverance, and, let’s face it, being a little off,” Obama concluded. “It’s in our DNA. It’s what makes us great. Heck, sometimes I turn my music up really loud and just scream at myself in the mirror for an hour. That’s a pretty fucked-up thing. May God bless the United States of America.”

Collonato and Campocecina

Made plans to hang out with Daniele, Jenny and their friend Antonio (Toto?)…

Went to Collonato, which is this charming little village of 200 up near the Marble mines. We had some meat, focaccia etc…very nice. Then we went to Campocecina which is a park or forest area way up the hill….pics below

cost of University in the States.

So the common figure cited is that in the states a bachelors degree is worth about a million dollars over a lifetime of earning. I understand that there could be flaws with that figure because it may not take into account inflation, the cost of school and lost wages if you had been working for the 4 years instead of going to school…BUT, am I missing something by saying that it makes economic sense for a government to pay the full cost of a students college because they would assume to get somewhere between 20-40% of that million dollars (or whatever that figure is) return in taxes?
I’m sure someone has done all this research, but if I’m right then it’s a very good investment for the state to encourage as many people as possible to go to University, and to pay for all of it (up to say 100,000USD)…It seems really short-sighted to cut University funding (i.e. make students pay more).
So why are governments doing this? Is it purely a short-sighted, near-term political “ploy” or am I really missing something in the figures?

This just occurred to me a few days ago since I have been thinking about college (in case I don’t get to stick around Italy)…I’m sure this idea has been covered to exhaustion…I’ve just never seen any discussion on it.

books and things I value…

I’ve read 2 Bill Bryson books in the last 3 weeks…this is a major accomplishment for a non-reader like me 🙂
“there’s no pictures”…

As I was reading both books I was keeping an eye out for witty quotes to re-post here…however I’ve decided noone values my opinion so what’s the point….

Bill Bryson: blah blah blah blah blahblahblahblabhalbalbhalhb
your reaction: haha..that’s frickin hilarious!!! I’m going to tell my friends about this great book!!!!

Anyways the books I read were “Mother Tongue” and “Notes from a small island”. If you think I have anything valuable to say you should read the books…If you don’t read them then you must think I’m an idiot and I don’t want you to come to this page anymore…
Happy birthday to me…I get to indulge myself once a year 😉

Tomorrow is bottle night…kebap and a movie!!! You carry out my bottles 😉
Come on over!

Day of the dead and all that…

Busy weekend I think…tomorrow going to the Comics and animation fest in Lucca (with a probably sleepover at Matteo’s) and then to Florence on Sunday for halloween (party at some hostel “filled with American girls”). Followed be a sleepover at Leo’s.
Nevermind that I don’t find american girls at hostels interesting…and I suppose they feel the same about me…

I’ll have a go anyways…Back here on Monday or Tuesday…

Monday is a holiday…November 1…Day of the dead (I think  it’s called). I guess it’s another Catholic thing…When I was still in Portland I had a Mexican colleague and he told me that it was a day of remembering your ancestors. The families all go to the graves of the dead ones and pretty much throw a party…food…drinks…candles…memories…etc…etc…etc…et al.
I have noone to celebrate, but if I wander upon a cemetary I’ll stop in…I am fond of cemetaries.
I will have both cameras with me (I was told that at the comic fest there will be lots of pictures to be had)…cemetery pics are probably more exciting, but time will tell 🙂

On a completely unrelated note…
I found this interesting: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/11/01/101101fa_fact_hersh?currentPage=1
but it’s a topic I like to follow…

I don’t really have the energy of focus to tie this into the “internet kill switch” (which may or may not have anything to do with national security) and then to even further tie this into a joke about americans who are oblivious to important issues (such as the link, or terrorism, or climate change, or hypocrisy) until something critical happens at which point said americans would find a way to assign blame to someone “else”…These are the same people who blame our fine President Obama for the economy but it has never even crossed their mind that they should blame Bush for 2001…

It occurs to me…

I think I came here one year ago today…wow!!! That’s kinda crazy. I should have a party or something.
