and the award for irony goes to….

I think these are all from the same speech, but I got them from two different articles, so maybe it isn’t. Front row seat to a revolution??? Let the fun begin!!!

Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski made an appeal for Germany to show more leadership in the crisis.
“You know full well that nobody else can do it,” he said in a speech in Berlin on Monday evening, referring to efforts to save Europe’s monetary union.

“I will probably be the first Polish foreign minister in history to say so, but here it is,” Radek Sikorski said in Berlin. “I fear German power less than I am beginning to fear German inactivity. You have become Europe’s indispensable nation.”

“The biggest threat to the security and prosperity of Poland would be the collapse of the eurozone,” Poland’s Sikorski said Monday. “And I demand of Germany that, for your own sake and for ours, you help it survive and prosper. You know full well that nobody else can do it.”

…the democracy of the markets dictates we must prepare:

and it’s a couple hours after I posted that, but I stumbled on this…also mentioning irony. I want bonus points 😉

I predict a repeat of TARP 2008…If I recall it was first rejected…markets crashed and then TARP was re-voted on…well done politics…Nothing in Europe will happen until we’re all well past crisis point.
I still don’t think Italians “get it”…Nor do a lot of americans, but they can’t even be bothered talking with after some point…
Not that I’m cheering that I’ll be right, quite the opposite in fact…but I have no say in anything.

it was a cracking week!

Not sure why, but this was great! If anything I guess it’s because I’m sleeping well. Finally settled into the new place, and loving it!

The weather here has been fantastic (in the daytime and only if you’re standing in the sun). It was in the high teens a couple days, but cold at night.

Got tix for the Gogol Bordello show in Florence next month 😀
Also have a ticket for Todd Snider in London in February (still right Matt? – don’t give it away). Just gotta figure out what to do for x-mas…Probably skip town as it’s the worst time of the year to be home alone – ha! Don’t need to repeat last year 😉

Gogol Bordello is just fun, but Todd Snider is one of the greatest songwriters I know of…20 years of putting em out…just cuz they rhyme 😉

food

So, since I’m poor this month I’ve been cooking a lot. It’s kind of boring being home so much, but I guess it will only last until payday. Anyways today I had the inkling for a BLT…through the day I have been expanding my ingredients…it’s now going to be an american sammich that probably has too much stuff on it 🙂

I’m kind of excited to cook tonight!

Not sure why, but I keep thinking of tsunamis lately…I’m even more susceptible to one at my new flat. I think I’m about 4 meters (12 ft) above sea level…Luckily only a quake/landslide in the Med would affect me. Doesn’t happen THAT often.

BOOOOOORING!

I know these aren’t mildly interesting, but if I don’t clean out the camera now, then when will I?

Italian politics

I still get the impression that Italians don’t really know what’s going on with euro politics and the economics of some European countries (esp. their own). They were very Berlusconi focused, and thought of him as THE problem.

I’ve wondered for years why there aren’t more scientists, economists (if I may coin a new phrase – technocrat 😉 ) in politics. I think we all know the answer is that a countries “best and brightest” don’t go into politics (they go into the military…hahah).

Happy birthday to me!

so today I went to Daniele and Jenny’s at around noon, had lunch, took a nap and stayed for dinner. As you can see in the photo I got a gift from these two plus Leo…THANKS A BUNCH!

Last night I also had a party at Simona and Andrea’s. Thanks to them and Cristina and James for more kitchen stuff!
This was a very good weekend! 🙂
As you may note in the photo it was a beautiful day! However once the sun goes down it gets cold, and when one is not planning to be driving home after dark one will wish for gloves and long sleeves…

it’s all very suspicious…again… ;)

nuff said

Not mine, but funny!

I’ve heard a lot of colleauges talk about Berlusconi, but I’ve yet to hear anyone say anything about economics…maybe they are talking about it in Italian, so I wouldn’t hear, but I get the impression it’s just not an issue here. If we go back to the lira we go back to the lira…

I’ll have a front row seat…

…but looks aren’t everything…
Except in your case…
harharharhar…

It’s a big news day…love it!

I find the occupiers/99%ers to be rather nationalistic and too economic/GDP focused – or maybe that’s how the mainstream (right wing) media is reporting stuff. I’m annoyed.
If the media is to be believed then I’m far to the left of those people. They are focused on small issues…
I’m going to end up retiring to a commune in Vermont I think 😉

Far as the news…Here’s the vague highlights: Berlusconi (and it seems the € lives on for another day – Don’t change your mind Tony), Sarkozy/Netenyahu (Frenchie speaks the truth), Australia carbon tax, right-wing yank healthcare gets by another appeals court…

more books

Today some books I ordered arrived.

IQ84 – Haruki Murakami (my favourite author)
The Post American World v2,0 – Fareed Zakari (Never read him, but I like his commentary and insight)
Anathem – Neal Stephenson (I read one of his earlier books years ago, and have been waiting for an occasion to read another. Alas, it has come)

If I can avoid abuse maybe I’ll post my opinions when I’m done 😉
