chocolate, coal, light, america, TopGear…nonsense!

So, it’s Thursday I guess…Tomorrow is a holiday. Something to do with wise men and/or some old woman bringing chocolate and/or coal (depending on if you’re good or bad).
I have no idea…I’ll take the day off tho.

It was sort of still light out when I got home. This is nice!!!

I saw that they DID make an American version of Top Gear. I’m not happy about this…I saw the first episode. Not impressed! I suppose it could get better, but when you have a great UK show, why not just show it…well done america…you’ve annoyed me again.

Other than that nothing happens…Here’s a link of a town just a few kilometers from here:

huh….it’s Friday?!? I finished IQ84

How did that happen? Time has flown by. That’s kind of sad…

I got a ride to the mall yesterday for some help bringing home some supplies that are too big the vespa…Broom, mop, bucket, clothes hanger, kitchen stuff etc etc. Fairly productive month I think 🙂
It’s starting to feel like a home here. Cheers Jenny!

I finished IQ84 today (Haruki Murakami). Its seemed to have gotten a lot more press than any of his previous books.
When I started the book it seemed a bit “flat” to me. I’m not sure if I was affected by reviews and press…I hate that!!!
Anyway, I got into it quickly. It’s not my favourite from him, but I still enjoyed it (all 925 pages), and I didn’t find myself cussing at him as I read the last paragraph (which happens a lot actually 🙂 ). It was more or less wrapped up…(obviously worth noting)

Here’s my review of every Murakami book:

People are confused and/or unsettled by their circumstances.
Strange things happen.
People end up in different places (emotionally and mentally), but are confused by different things than they were on page 1…
THE END!

I don’t like bragging, but I’m the best book reviewer in the world!

movies…

I’m loving my sky!
I watched “Gandhi” yesterday. 3 hours and it just flew by. I had never seen it before. I do have a vague recollection of it being in the theatres in 1981? or so…Didn’t watch it then, but must have either seen it in the theatre or heard someone talking about it when I was 7 years old.

I also watched a movie called “Partition” last week. Never heard of it, but it was on, so I watched and enjoyed it. Not bad. About the splitting up of India and Pakistan in 1947. There’s a lot of history there that I don’t know about. I shall probably have to find a book or two…

a little piece of my childhood died today…damn you SkyTV…

It used to be that if someone mentioned Karate kid II I would immediately remember the time on July 4th (1987?) when it was showing at the Capitol  theatre for free…I remember there was a huge line around the block for a noontime showing. I was there with my cousin. It’s one of those immediate and vivid memories from ones youth…
Well, thanks to Staycation 2011 and Sky -if someone mentions Karate Kid II I will from now on think of that chunk of dog shit on the sidewalk that I have to avoid everyday when I’m walking to the coffee shop for my morning cappuccino…

It was kind of a crap movie! Sometimes one should not revisit their childhood.

paris fell through

Due to a couple circumstances beyond my control I ended up not going to Paris…my friends all did, so as they were visiting the Louvre I was uhhhh….having a beer, watching TV, then napping. Good decision Squires!

It’s a staycation…I’m awesome!!!

ok…I just wanted to share this.

Hotel is booked…and I just read a review:

We arrived by metro to the area at 12 midnight and there was no proper pavements or roads as they were being worked on, nor could we find the hotel. We were absolutely terrified as when we eventually found someone who pointed us in the right direction we had to walk by a habitual gathering of drug addicts openly injecting and snorting crack cocaine. The street lighting was very poor but none the less we stud out like sore thumbs with our travel cases and felt very threatened. These people gather here every day and night and it was quite intimidating. The location of the hotel was very much like a no-go area. The only way to get to the metro from the hotel was by walking by a green hill area where the junkies seem to sleep & party. There is a terrible vulnerability about this as one would feel if they were attacked no one would come to the rescue as it’s so isolated. The hotel was good value for money although the staff were very unfriendly. I would not recommend the hotel as its situated in a dangerous location.

We’re all gonna die 🙂
So potentially my last words to you all are…Happy Solstice!
I’ve written the will here before, but when I die I want to be fed to alligators while people sing and drink 😀
Then plant the alligator guano under a tree or something…

Although viking funerals are cool too…Either way make sure alcohol and singing are emphasized 🙂 Root word of funeral is “fun”, so have fun! Back in a few days hopefully…

uhmmmm…

So I haven’t posted in a while…Let’s see…

The Gogol Bordello show was amazing!!! Nice venue if you can get seats in the balcony (we did – but I think the Italian friends would have preferred to be down below where they couldn’t see and would be getting their asses kicked in the crowd 😉 I enjoyed the balcony view…

I was sick for a few days…much better now, but I actually took 2 days off…In italy you don’t get any sick days without a doctors visit/note…I don’t want to go sit in a dr’s office when I’m sick, so I just took 2 of my 19 (yes 19) vacation days.

Went to Ikea as well…productive visit…which reminds me I need to water my plants.

I got my SkyTV (satellite) hooked up. I’m loving it! I gotta plug TopGear…that is one of the greatest shows ever! I saw it maybe 10x when I lived in Frankfurt, but it’s basically on every few hours here (day and night)…big +1!

Probably going to Paris tomorrow (I say probably cuz I’m meeting some friends there and they seem to have gone dark for the past day and a half, and I’m not sure if they booked the room or not)…I’m a little shaky on going to a gigantic european capital with no place to stay.
I’ve not been to Paris, but am kinda looking forward to it! Viva la France!

waves and water

I took these about 200 meters from my flat. We’ve had some storms lately (hence the wood).
Real life waves (somewhat abnormal) and it was cool. There was actually a roar to the sea…I had forgotten all about the sound the ocean makes until I was there in October. It’s a great sound! …anyway not anything I’d heard from the Med before.

Parigi…

I’ve been invited to go to Paris for x-mas…I’ve got nothing else going, so I’m kind of saying yes! Sounds fantastic!!! There’s also rumours of euro disney… hahah…also exciting 🙂

more Euro zone stuff to read…
